Amritsar Airport Links Punjab to 27 Global Destinations as Air India Launches Hub

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who addressed the gathering virtually, said that statistics show approximately 150,000 passengers travel from Amritsar to Delhi every year to catch international flights. Similarly, about 150,000 passengers arrive in Delhi from abroad and then travel to Amritsar.

He said Amritsar will become the international gateway for North India, with major catchment areas including Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh connecting through the city. He further said that of the approximately 30 million Indians living abroad, nearly 10 million are Punjabi and as air connectivity increases, Amritsar’s economy will directly benefit.

Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, who was part of the launch at Amritsar along with AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar, said that the hub is an important scheme of the government for the aviation sector as it would ease the travelling of international passengers from their state to international destinations.

With the launch of the hub-and-spoke model, two daily ‘Easy Connect’ flights have been operationalised from Amritsar. Passengers travelling on such flights of Air India are required to complete certain pre-departure and transit processes to ensure a seamless journey, including mandatory DigiYatra enrolment for Indian nationals.

Indian passport holders connecting internationally on Easy Connect flights are required to enrol in DigiYatra. Bookings for Air India’s Easy Connect flights are available across all channels, including Air India’s website, mobile app, contact centre, and travel agents.

The launch marks a major step in expanding international air connectivity from Amritsar, enabling passengers from Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh to access global destinations through a streamlined travel network.
